Bio
Liam Hugh Phillips is a 9-year-old pool player, born June 17, 2015. He is from Ontario, Canada, and lives with his mum, dad, younger brother Connor, dog Bauer, and cat Boo. He has an older half brother that spends time with him regularly as well. Liam has been around the game of pool since the day he was born. Sleeping in a playpen during weekend tournaments, crawling across the pool table and playing with the balls from the time he could sit up. He has been raised around the game, watching both his mum and dad play, as well as their closest family friends.
From the age of three, Liam has practiced holding a cue, and trying to play on his own. At the age of 3, Liam was going with his mum and dad to the pool hall on Sunday afternoons and taking a table to himself near his mum and dad, and shooting pool with family friends. Everyone wanted to play with the little boy, and he seemed to be listening to everything people were saying about how and what he could do to be a better little player.
By the age of 4, Liam barely able to see over the table was making bank shots with precision. Refusing to use a crate to stand on, staying stubborn as he could be, be would practice shot after shot, stretching and reaching as best he could. Spending more and more time in the family basement. Liam quickly outgrew his youth cue, and started playing more with a spare cue his dad had.
At the age of 7, Liam was enrolled into the youth pool league over an hour drive away. He went once a month and finished in the quarter finals his first year playing.
At the age of 8, Liam managed to win himself a singles spot to the St. Louis 9-ball Junior Championships. After an 18-hour drive, he finally made it to the hotel and he was in heaven. Several rooms filled with pool tables, a table of beautiful trophy’s, and a chance to meet Florian “Venom” Kohler after watching him on his tablet forever. Liam went on to win 8 matches straight, and even played in a mini during the even, taking first place and a trophy. Going into Liam’s 9th match, his handicap raised from a 2 to a 3, and he was a little thrown off his game. Losing by 2 points he finished 5th overall, and took home a sportsmanship award.
Liam turned 9 just 2 weeks after the Junior Championships, and unfortunately the Junior league took a break for re-structuring. Liam is currently playing in adult tournaments, working on increasing his Fargo rating. Going with his dad to tournaments within a 2-hour driving window, he is competing in as many tournaments as he can, although they are limited as he is not yet 13-years-old.
Liam spends a couple hours each night practicing with his dad, and spends several hours a day on the weekends running drills. When he is not inside on the pool table you can find Liam outside with his friends playing soccer. Liam is determined to one day be a professional, and he wants to play in every state in the United States. He has a goal to get to the SVB Open Junior Championship and the BEF Junior National Championships this year.
